Day 1
Arrival & Cultural Orientation (Phnom Penh)
- Arrival in Phnom Penh & hotel check-in
- Welcome session: Introduction to Cambodian society & development context
- Visit Wat Phnom and the Independence Monument
- Welcome dinner and briefing on responsible community engagement
Outcome: Students are grounded in the socio-political history and
expectations of ethical engagement.
Day 2
Understanding Cambodia Development Landscape
- Visit to NGOs working on child rights or education access
- Seminar: The Cambodian development sector
- past, present, future
- Guided visit to the Royal Palace and National Museum
Outcome: Students explore macro-level development efforts and actors in
Cambodia.
Day 3
Cambodia Past: Genocide & Healing
- Visit to Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum and Killing Fields
- Talk: The role of memory and trauma in post-conflict societies
- Group reflection on trauma-sensitive volunteering
Outcome: Students gain historical empathy and understand the root
causes of social inequality.
Day 4
Journey to Rural Village (Kampong Thom)
- Travel to a partner village or rural district
- Homestay orientation and community welcome
- Short community walk to observe local life
Outcome: Students experience village life and begin immersion in local
culture.
Day 5
Education in Rural Cambodia
- Visit local school and assist in English or creative learning activities
- Dialogue with teachers about educational challenges
- Afternoon: create interactive learning tools with children
Outcome: Students understand education disparities and grassroots
teaching approaches.
Day 6
Public Health & Clean Water Access
- Join local NGO to assess water and sanitation needs
- Assist in hygiene awareness campaign with youth
- Evening discussion: Access to basic health as a human right
Outcome: Students engage in community health initiatives and behavior
change education.
Day 7
Poverty, Livelihood & Local Economies
- Participate in livelihood activities: organic farming, weaving, or food processing
- Interview women entrepreneurs or farmer cooperatives
- Group journal: What makes an economy inclusive?
Outcome: Students connect economic empowerment with human
development.
Day 8
Community Project Design Workshop
- Workshop on needs assessment, participatory development, and ethical planning
- Small group brainstorming: co-create mini projects (murals, garden, curriculum support)
- Present project ideas to village leaders
Outcome: Students learn to co-design projects with cultural sensitivity and
collaboration.
Day 9
Community Project Implementation
- Carry out mini-projects with community members
- Encourage youth participation and knowledge exchange
- Celebrate progress with music, food, and storytelling
Outcome: Students practice teamwork and real-world impact creation.
Day 10
Reflection & Gratitude Ceremony
- Host a gratitude circle with community
- Reflection: How did we grow through service?
- Depart village for Siem Reap
Outcome: Students deepen their emotional and personal connection to
their work.
Day 11
Siem Reap: Social Enterprise & Youth Empowerment
- Visit youth-led social enterprises or vocational training centers
- Dialogue: How is impact measured?
- Free evening to explore Siem Reap responsibly
Outcome: Students understand the innovation and creativity in
Cambodia youth movement.
Day 12
Angkor Heritage & Community Tourism
- Guided visit to Angkor Wat from a community tourism perspective
- Discussion on tourism impact on local people and culture
- Optional visit to floating village or cultural center
Outcome: Students analyze the intersection of tourism, economy, and
cultural preservation.
Day 13
Final Project Presentation & Celebration
- Group work: presentations on learnings and recommendations
- Certificate awarding and cultural exchange dinner with local partners
- Dance, games, and farewell ceremony
Outcome: Students celebrate accomplishments and articulate their growth
and impact.
Day 14
Departure
- Airport drop-off and final feedback
